Soap, Salvation, and a Mother's Determination: Meet Trang Nguyen

Trang Nguyen Episode 1

Meet the Host: Trang Nguyen, founder of CVA Products

Ever wondered what drives someone to create a skincare line? For Trang Nguyen, founder of CVA Products, it wasn't ambition but desperation. After watching her daughter suffer from severe eczema for four years, relying on steroid creams that concerned her, Trang took matters into her own hands during the pandemic lockdowns.

The transformation began with research into goat milk soap. Not content to simply purchase products, Trang attended soapmaking classes and developed formulations specifically for sensitive skin. When her daughter's skin dramatically improved without steroids, Trang knew she had to share her discovery with others struggling with similar conditions. Thus, CVA Products was born in Keller, Texas – a side business she runs while maintaining another full-time job and raising four children.

What sets CVA Products apart isn't just the quality of their handmade soaps and balms, but Trang's genuine commitment to helping people. She shares touching stories of customers finding relief, including a child with severely cracked, bleeding hands whose skin healed completely after using her balm. Perhaps most revealing is how Trang personally reaches out to customers who order products that might not address their specific conditions, sometimes even recommending alternatives that aren't her own products. "I want to educate people what they need to do to help their own kids or help themselves," she explains, demonstrating that her business is built on compassion rather than mere commerce.

Speaker 2:

Welcome everyone. I'm Sofia Yvette, co-host and producer here in the studio with Trang Nguyen, founder of CBA Products. Trang, how are you today? I'm good. How are you? I'm also good Now. Over the years, you've grown a remarkable following. However, some listeners may not be familiar with your full journey. Let's take it from the top. Could you share a little background about your company and what you do?

Speaker 3:

So I okay, let me start out. So I'm not really I'm a soap makers, but we, so I own a CBA product that's an old town, keller, and I started because my daughter has eczema and was not what I thought I was going to go to do it, but I was struggling so much for four years and I get tired of her using story cream and she couldn't even leave the house, so it was make me frustrated. And when COVID came, I have more time staying home so I dig deeper, researching what caused it and what I should do to help my daughter and get rid of steroid, because I heard so many bad thing about steroid cream and I don't want my daughter to be on that.

Speaker 3:

And so I came across the goat milk soap and I try, I try from one brand and then I read the ingredients, understand what it is. And then I attend some classes, learn how to make soap, and then I tested on my daughter. A couple of years after that I saw improvement on her and then we don't have to use their story cream. And then I told my husband that I need to make soap and started helping other people. So we, that's how I started. But the store itself is not my, it's my husband's side, like my side store, my dream store. I still have other job to do.

Speaker 2:

Now we know marketing is the key to every business's success. How do you currently market your business?

Speaker 3:

When I first started, it's just me and my husband, so we attend every little bit of small town and COVID just started, so we attend every single outdoor event. We didn't have a chance because we're brand new, so we couldn't do any farmer markets. We do pop-up events and then I met and networking with other vendors and then we step into a city event. After that, then we got into a CD van. After that, then we got into farmer markets and then we got into Expo. We did a little bit of Facebook ads, but it's not so well. It's not the customers, cause my product is very unique. I just want to help the people who need it and also regular people too, but it's just that's the goal that I want. Want to help the people who need it and also regular people too, but it's just that's the goal. And then, when people get off certain things, and then networking, word of mouth, and then we on Google ads, that's pretty much that's it, but yeah.

Speaker 2:

Now, when you're not running your business, what do you usually like to do for fun?

Speaker 3:

your business. What do you usually like to do for fun? Oh so I have four kids. I'm really I have really tight schedule because I also work full-time on the side, so every usually we only we only have time, like on the holidays, and it gets off on school, and so every time when they off from school I make sure I take them to. I like to go to to the beach, so we take them to the beach. I like to do sightseeing. I think that pretty much is. We like to get out of town, do four or five days vacay, let the kids enjoy the time they have, because we only do that only like twice a year, three times a year. So those times are very important to us.

Speaker 2:

Well, family fun is always important and, trang, it sounds like you're a very, very busy person. So, in your own words, why are you doing?

Speaker 3:

this the stuff I want to educate people what they need to do to help their own kids or help themselves. I never know my things are worth for others unless they have to come and tell me it works. And one time about two years ago, two or three years ago and I met a customer at the flower market and she brought her daughter to me and she showed me what her daughter had was an eczema on the palm, the hand, and it was pretty bad. It worse than what my daughter had. It was cracked everywhere and it was bleeding and so I gave the bomb. At the time I did tricks, a lot of stuff, so I gave the bomb for a mom to try it out. I think about a week or two weeks later she actually wrote me an email and thanks me because of the bomb. She didn't have to take her daughter to a dermatologist for anything, it just grew up on its own, broke into tears when I read that email and I was excited, was happy. She was not the first one.

Speaker 3:

And when our store got was, was it one of the local newspaper reach out to us and they wrote an article about us. We not we not necessarily like selling stuff, we want to help other parents too and not just the parent itself, an adult who's suffering the same thing. So when we have local newspaper publishers on there and then a couple senior folks who read about us and they reach out to us and normally I don't know if you order online, I wouldn't know what you have unless you talk to me in person. And I do hate the fact that if you try my product and it doesn't work and I don't know that and then like it doesn't help you, I don't want that to happen. And two years ago when I got like a bunch of orders come in and accidentally I read them, read through, and I was like Okay, why did this person order this? But the person actually left the phone number.

Speaker 3:

So I reached out and I found out that she didn't have eczema, she had something else, and so I did send her what I think should work and I told her to try it out and she did and she sent me feedback. He said, oh, it doesn't work. And I told her she needs to see a dermatologist or doctor get inside what she had and she did. She came back. She told me she had to see a dermatologist or a doctor to get insight, what she had. And she did. She came back. She told me she had some kind of infection or something. So I have to tell her what she could use.

Speaker 3:

Not what I have, but I told her where she could get the ingredient that could help her to overcome her infections infections. And sure enough, like about two weeks later she came back and she literally told me that the oil I told her to get not only it helped her but it also helped her husband, like he has a really bad infection somewhere. It's healed up on its own. So it just it's not my product, but if I know what you have, I can guide you through it and I can tell you what you need to get. If you can get it locally or you can order online, you use it. It will work.

Speaker 2:

Wow, love it, trang. Thank you so much for sharing that heartfelt story with all of our listeners today. We'll catch you in the next episode where we'll dive into some frequently asked questions. Have a fantastic rest of your day, thank you.
