The Gentle Trio: Natural Solutions for Sensitive Skin Sufferers
3 Must Haves For Skin With Eczema : Artisan Soap, Moisturizer And Laundry Detergent
Struggling with eczema can feel like an endless battle of itching, flare-ups, and frustration – especially when the "solutions" involve steroids and chemicals that create more problems than they solve.
Today, CVA Products founder Trang Nguyen reveals her gentle three-part system that transformed her daughter's bleeding, cracked skin into healthy, calm skin in just seven days. This straightforward approach begins in an unexpected place: your laundry room. The commercial detergents most families use unwittingly create a constant source of irritation through clothing and bedding. Trang walks us through her simple, cost-effective alternative using just washing soda and baking soda that removes this hidden trigger from your daily life.
The heart of her system is a carefully crafted soothing balm, infused with herbs through a traditional 12-week process that extracts the healing properties of calendula and chamomile. Unlike conventional moisturizers that require constant reapplication, this unscented balm creates a protective barrier that lasts all day – even in harsh winter conditions. With powerful ingredients like neem oil and cocoa butter, it provides a genuine alternative to steroid treatments for those with severe skin irritation.
Beyond external care, Trang shares crucial insights about identifying personal triggers through careful observation and testing. From food sensitivities to temperature changes, understanding your unique eczema triggers can dramatically reduce flare-ups. Whether you're dealing with your child's sensitive skin or your own adult eczema, this episode offers practical wisdom from someone who's been there.

Speaker 2:Eczema doesn't just need treatment. It needs a routine. Trang Nguyen shares her top three essentials for calming flare-ups and keeping sensitive skin happy Soap, moisturizer and detergent that truly care. Welcome back everyone. I am Millie M, co-host and producer, back in the studio with Trang Nguyen, founder of CVA Products. Trang, how are you? I'm good. How are you? I'm awesome. I am excited about this topic. My son suffers from eczema, so I'm just overjoyed to hear what you have to say to help our personal situation. Let's talk about your go-to trio for eczema care. What are the three must-haves for skin with eczema?
Speaker 3:Number one laundry detergents. Laundry detergents I highly, highly recommend. If you can stay plain when I say plain is you can use that with washing soda and baking soda. It should be fine. You can add in with distilled vinegar, so you only do one, one tablespoon of each and you add it into, regardless of you have like a top load or front load. You just put it in one full tablespoon in there, first before you put in the laundry and then you put in a full load in there and then you wash it. Warm water now some people um, you hear some people adding some like shredded soap, which is fine. Make sure that you shred it like like parmesan cheese shredded like really tiny, and then you can throw it in there. That's also good as well. I don't do that, I just stick with washing soda and baking soda.
Speaker 2:Awesome, awesome. How do you formulate moisturizers? Let's talk about moisturizers. So you said there are three things. So the number one is the laundry detergent. What's the second thing?
Speaker 3:Second one is it depends my daughter. She, when she first had eczema, she was using goat milk lotions. Okay, it only lasted for a few months and she only used unscented. But right now we're using soothing balm, which is the one that I handmade for her and it works a lot with all our clients. It's unscented and we have cocoa butters. We have coconut oil, chamomile and caladula in there.
Speaker 3:Caladula is known for healing, the speed of the process. I add a little bit neem oil in there because one of my customers said neem is help a lot with healing anti-bacteria. I have it in my bar, so but I add it in there. And then I the caladulaula. I don't add essential oil because I want the baby to use it as well.
Speaker 3:So what I did is I using the herbs and I infused them traditional way. So I infused caledula with chamomile for about 12 weeks long, um, you know, just leave them outside of the sun. And then, after 12 weeks, I used the oil, I filtered out and I used the oil and then making the balm and I threw like a small batches. Um, so usually I only have 10 or 20 of the uh soothing balm stick like deodorant side. So my daughter, basically what she does is when into a balm. She just rub it on herself. It it moisturize, it lasts for the whole entire day, like lotion usually, unless you either a few hours or half a day you have to reapply. With the soothing balm, especially in the wintertime, you don't have to reapply. It's great for kids as well.
Speaker 2:So you use the natural soap that's one and then you use the washing soda or baking soda for your detergent, and then you use a soothing balm for moisturizing.
Speaker 3:Yes, those are the three items. When a person has eczema, they must, must have.
Speaker 2:I know I had a coworker who suffered from eczema and he talked about how cow's milk would give him flare ups. So sometimes it's your diet as well, do you agree?
Speaker 3:Yes, dairy, my daughter. The only way you notice is if you have flare up, as you know. But my, my daughter she has when she was young, before I know we know she have eczema, but we didn't know what triggered her. So we she actually went through a serial test and so we know she's allergic to dairy, even with egg and wheat. And then later, um, you just have to observe yourself she alerts you to red dye, so dye can also trigger eczema. Beef certain beef that my daughter eat will trigger eczema. Um, coldness, which she's been having the last year or so, when it was to sit in a classroom or when it's super cold outside, she would have flared up. So her body needs to be keep warm all the time. There's many different things, but the major thing from what I was told was allergy. Okay, if you have allergy, you need to control your allergy, because allergy can trigger, flat off, a lot of stuff on your skin.
Speaker 2:That makes sense. That makes sense. So how quickly do families see results when switching over to this soap balm detergent routine that you have created?
Speaker 3:OK, so it varies, not everybody using all three methods. I've seen some of my customers when they met me at the farm market. They showed me what their kid had. The only thing I recommend was using the balm. So some of them you would see like it cracked open, bleeding. So the balm usually heal up in seven days and then they just continue using it wherever that they flare up.
Speaker 3:It's not like a treatment, it's just preventing and it helps moisturizing. But I do recommend them to switch. You know daily life, like laundry detergent and stuff, if that's what they really wanted. Now others, they don't need the balm, they just need the soap. So it is varied, but the soap itself usually take. It's a pro long. Okay, it's not like you're using one or two times one bar soap and you said it's not working. Soap is different. Balm is like. If you come at the stage where your skin is super like, like becoming rashes, then it will help you. Instead of using steroid bomb is an alternative. It will help you to get rid of the steroids. It's kind of replacement, temporary, but you don't have to be on steroids.
Speaker 2:That is great information for families to know that they have an option outside. And you say that even with that dry crack skin, that balm is safe for that cracking.
Speaker 3:Yes, so the balm is unscented. Most people, like I said, with eczema and severe sensitive skin, scent, even with essential oil, is still triggering your skin. So all my balms soothing balm are unscented. If you have doesn't have a have eczema. If you have severe dryness on your skin not just your body, your face, I use it myself. When the wintertime come, I just put it on there. I don't use any daily moisturizer, I just put it on one and then let it dry for about 30 seconds to a minute and then I put makeup on if you want to make up on there, and it keep your face Moisturized for the whole day without drying, like you know how we love our skin to be beautiful.
Speaker 2:Yes, nice and glowing, your skin looks great, so I'm definitely gonna log on and grab some for myself, because the winter months can really be hard on your skin, from head to toe. So, just quickly. What tips do you have for maintaining consistency? I know I'm bad about maybe falling asleep in my makeup or not always moisturizing every time I take a shower, so what tips do you have for maintaining consistency with eczema care and skin care across the seasons?
Speaker 3:okay, so this is my daily routine. I'm really bad, I know I make soap and I tell people, but I'm super bad. I have two or three items that I have even have been really bad at it. So, uh, face, um, I need to have handmade face soap. Face soap I usually get the one either with goat milk or rice water. That's the main thing. Most soap, um, they don't. They made with water, which is not good for my face. So I always have a bar soap.
Speaker 3:I wash my face at night and then I wash my face again in the morning. Okay, for moisturizer, um, I can use either a sooty balm or you can get a facial oil with a little um, you can get the unscented one or you can get the one with add a little bit of essential oil or lavender, something like that. But the facial oil I'm talking about is the primary oil ingredient in there. It has to have rose hip. Rose hip is super good for your face. If you can use that replacement on your skincare, just apply that one to three drop on your face in the morning. It is is help, a lot is help to keep your skin moisturized.
Speaker 3:Sugar scrub if you can use sugar scrub at least once a week. That's super good as well. Sugar scrub just wash your face um at night. Just do at least once a week. And then, when you put it on there, just leave it for about. I usually leave it for 30 minutes. The reason I leave the sugar scrub on my face is I want all the sugar and the oil and the butter absorbed to my face and after you rinse it off with warm water, your face is super soft, like a baby's skin yes, Like if you wash at night, you wake up in the morning.
Speaker 3:It's still super soft.
Speaker 2:I love that these are all natural ingredients and you don't have to spend $300 on a skincare routine in order to have amazing skin. Thank you, that was incredibly helpful. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and your heart. We'll catch you on the next time on CVA Products Podcast.
